Greengage Urbanscape, Ltd., is a woman-owned, full-service landscape contracting company based in Brooklyn, New York. Our bailiwick is outdoor amenity space on mid- to high-rise softscape projects, as well as high-end residential and public space projects. We have grown from a landscape maintenance company that was established in 1959 to working with notable landscape architects, construction management firms and developers. Our seasoned management team innovates and exceeds industry standards from conception to completion, following strict quality control and safety measures while implementing value engineering without comprising the finished product.

LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE

Greengage offers daily site verification and picture documentation with our customized CRM software to monitor our each of our valued client’s properties we service.

Our custom-tailored maintenance programs include turf management, proper pruning techniques, scouting for plant diseases, irrigation monitoring, fertilization and weed control. We pride ourselves on manicured properties for amenity spaces, terraces and rooftops, as well as co-ops and condominiums in New York City’s five boroughs.

Our landscape installation services encompass a wide spectrum, ranging from transforming blank canvases into captivating outdoor environments to enhancing existing residential and commercial spaces. By collaborating closely with esteemed landscape architects or incorporating our clients' visionary ideas, we adeptly apply the fundamental principles of design—unity, scale, balance, simplicity, variety, emphasis, and sequence—to create a harmonious and captivating atmosphere. GREEN ROOF & WALL INSTALLATION

Vertical planting on walls and rooftops – exemplifying true “urbanscape” design – reduces our carbon footprint, showcasing beautiful annual and perennial flowers. Our walls are works of art that adorn lobbies and building entrances; they are the backdrops to numerous Instagram and Facebook posts, adding a distinctive personality to any space.  

Our team offers everything from design to installation and maintenance. We are committed to innovation through sustainable design, providing clients with LEED certification. Our green roofs assist with storm water management and improve energy efficiency by warming in the winter and cooling in the summer.

SOFTSCAPE

Bringing the designs of some of the most renowned landscape architects to life, we source our plants directly from reputable botanical nurseries and install the highest quality flora while adhering to the highest standards. Our plant containers beautifully accent building entrances, green walls, green roofs, lawns and curb trees. We also install allotment gardens on rooftops and terraces using recycled plastic lumber.

RECREATIONAL AREAS

Outdoor amenity spaces are our wheelhouse. From bocce courts to outdoor kitchens, safety tiles made from recycled materials create a safe environment. Water features with lighted scuppers are soothing and gorgeous both day and night – especially near a fire pit. Our canine synthetic turf helps keep our dog parks hygienic, while tunnels and fire hydrants make it fun. Life-size chess boards, also crafted from recycled materials, provide hours of fun for all ages.

IRRIGATION & LOW-VOLTAGE LIGHTING

We install custom-designed drip irrigation in planting beds, greenwalls, planters and lawns. These systems conserve water and are individually programmed for proper coverage of plant material, ensuring vivacious growth and maturation. Our low-voltage lighting can be seen on benches, under railing and along walkways.

STREET TREE PLANTING

Greengage is well-versed in the many facets of street tree planting in NYC. From obtaining permits, to the outlined protocol and species required, to the yearly maintenance procedures. We offer assurance, and a quicker turn-around time for a tree to enhance your exterior environment.

SEASONAL EMBELLISHMENT

Seasons mark the passage of time, each characterized by distinct weather conditions and a unique ambiance. Embracing the celebratory spirit and individuality of each season, we offer exquisite plantings and designs meticulously crafted for planters, containers, window boxes, tree-wells, and garden beds. Our designs capture the refreshing and revitalizing essence of Spring, showcasing an array of vibrant blooms. In Summer, our creations come alive with a profusion of colorful blossoms. As Autumn arrives, we infuse warm tones and incorporate captivating harvest displays. During Winter, our designs evoke a sense of enchantment, adorned with swags of evergreens, berries, birch, and pinecones. Each planting is thoughtfully conceived to harmonize with the symphony of the changing seasons, paying homage to their endings and the emergence of new beginnings.

WINTER SNOW/ICE MANAGEMENT

White-glove winter services keep our sites "black and wet.” We partner with WeatherWorks, zip-code-specific meteorologists for forecasts and snow triggers, and operators dedicated to your site are Snow & Ice Management Association certified. Furthermore, we are insured to perform winter services in New York City. Focusing on sustainability, our brine plant offers a solution that mitigates the need for salt applications by 30% and also prevents the bonding of snow to pavement, creating a safe environment for pedestrians, vehicles and pets.

ABOUT OUR NAME

My brother Edward and his partner Joe lived in a small apartment in Manhattan. To escape the city, they bought a one-room cabin on 32 acres in Sharon Springs, New York. The breathtaking property had the perfect balance of open fields and forest, and a vivacious stream arched with a wooden footbridge that led to the cabin. Most weekends, Edward and Joe would trudge out to Woodhaven, Queens to scoop me up for the four-hour drive to the country. Words cannot express how much I would look forward to the weekends spent in the country with my brother and Joe. 

One summer, I remember helping them dig a well for the cabin. When they needed a vessel to have the water tested in, they used a mason jar with the word “Greengage” on its label (Greengage is an English plum that is often used to make jam). Once the water was tested and deemed potable, they started referring to their cabin as Greengage. 

 Greengage symbolizes the birthplace of my love of nature and all things natural – it represents where I found happiness and where my best childhood memories were created. In rebranding our urban landscaping company, we chose the name Greengage as an homage to the beauty and splendor of the natural world, honoring its personal significance in my life.
